It's highly recommended to upgrade License Statistics as often as possible, at least every 2 years.

X-Formation provides support and maintain the older versions of License Statistics for 8 minor versions prior to the current version (at least 2 years).

List of supported versions is updated with each minor release, typically 3-4 times a year.

Support

  • X-Formation Support Team provides technical help for the installations included on the list below
  • For no longer supported versions the assistance is limited to updating License Statistics to the newer, supported version 

Installation

  • Installers for the supported versions of License Statistics are available to download from X-Formation download portal
  • In some cases, such as when needed to maintain the update chain, older installers are available as well
  • Direct update to the newest version from older, still supported versions is possible using the installer
    • MSI
    • RPM
    • DEB
  • Direct update from no longer supported version may not be possible. Older versions may require upgrading to a newer version before you are able to upgrade to the most current version. For details please follow the instruction matching your scenario. 

Database 

  • MySQL Server versions are supported for the length of time they are supported by the vendor (generally, 2 years from their release date)
  • Direct update of the MySQL Server by more than one major LTS version is not supported by the vendor
  • External database needs to be updated prior to updating License Statistics server following the proper instructions
  • Embedded database is updated automatically by the installer when updating from the still supported version

Data migration

  • Ability to migrate data directly to the newest version is maintained for 2-4 years
  • Existing data migrations are supported for 8 versions
  • New data migrations are added for another 8 versions
  • After that time the oldest migrations are removed, keeping last 8 versions only

Example

Policy to maintain data migrations for longer than 2 years was introduces to allow for easier update from not supported versions, by making clean License Statistics installation and restoring database backup on the new host.

  • It's possible to migrate data from License Statistics v6.18 directly to License Statistics v7.0 
  • It will be still possible until License Statistics v7.8 is released
  • With License Statistics v7.8 all data migrations prior to v7.0 will be removed, making direct database update form version prior to v7.0 to v7.8 an higher not possible.

Licenses

  • Licenses generated for the supported versions of License Statistics may not work with older, no longer supported versions  

Example

All licenses generated after the License Statistics v7.0 was released, will work with all versions supported at the time, so License Statistics v6.18 and above.

However they will not work with older, not supported versions, prior to License Statistics v6.18.
