For servers that are being monitored for realtime usage and for which you import denial logs, you may see two servers in License Statistics. This occurs because the denial log that is imported into License Statistics contains only the hostname of the machine, while the realtime server is known under an IP address or different hostname. In such cases, you can use an alias and/or merge the server data to see the server's usage information reported under one server name.

For example, say you have a FlexNet server for which you are tracking both realtime usage and denials. The realtime server uses the IP address 192.123.45.123, but the denial log for the same server uses a server hostname, Server1. This results in two independent servers being shown in License Statistics.

To see realtime statistics and denials under a single server in License Statistics, you designate one server as an alias for the other. For the above example, the denials import server, identified by the hostname Server1, can be designated as an alias of the realtime monitoring server, identified by the IP address 192.123.45.123, since these are two ids for the same server.

After assigning one server as an alias for the other, statistics for the two server hostnames will be shown under a single server. However, note that statistics gathered prior to creating the alias will still be shown under separate servers. You must merge the existing data to resolve this. Assigning server aliases and merging data under one server are described in the following sections.

Note that you can use aliases and merging exclusively from one another. For example, if you don't have existing data to merge for a server that is used for both denials and realtime data, you would only need to assign a server alias to ensure that the data is shown under a single server.

Assigning and editing server aliases

To assign a server alias for a server that uses multiple hostnames (one for denials and another for realtime data), so that all future data in License Statistics will be shown under one server:

  1. Select the server to which you want to assign an alias from the License Servers page, then click the Edit icon to open the Edit License Server dialog (see section 6.5.1, Editing license server information).
  2. Under Aliases, click Add New, and enter the desired alias.

  3. You can edit or delete the alias information at any time using the Edit and Delete icons under the Action column.
  4. When you are done entering the alias, click Close to exit the dialog.

Merging server data

To merge existing data in License Statistics for a server that uses multiple hostnames (one for denials and another for realtime data), so that the data for that server will be shown under one server instead of multiple servers:

  1. From the License Servers page, select the server that you want to merge, then click the Edit icon to open the Edit License Server dialog (see section 6.5.1, Editing license server information).
  2. From the License Servers list under the Merge tab, select the server to merge with the currently selected server. Note that the License Servers list contains only servers that are valid for merging with the currently selected server.

  3. Click Merge to complete the merge and close the dialog.
