The information on this page refers to License Statistics v6.13 and newer, which renamed "read-only mode" to "restricted access mode." If you are using a version previous to v6.13, see documentation for previous versions.

Restricted access mode Read-only mode was introduced in License Statistics 6v6.0 for the user convenience. It allows to run application and make basic administration tasks even if the license was exceeded or expired. License Statistics versions prior to 6.0 where not starting in most of cases related to license over-usage or passed expiration time.

Application fails to start

to allow users to run License Statistics in order to do basic administrative tasks, even when the license limits have been exceeded or the license/maintenance has expired. Prior to v6.0, License Statistics would not start up in most cases related to license overuse or exceeded expiration time.

Cases where License Statistics will run in restricted access mode

Restricted access mode is enabled automatically when theApplication will fail to start due to licensing in the cases listed below:

  • Version of the application is higher than the version in the license. license 
  • License (including Trial) has expired
  • Maintenance has expired, but application License Statistics was upgraded.

In the cases listed above License Statistics won't start read-only mode due to potential database migration. This prevents irreversible changes in customers data if he would have to decrease License Statistics instance.

Application runs in read-only mode

Read-only mode will be enable automatically in the situations listed below:

  • License (including Trial) has expired.
  • Users limit exceeds the license limit.
  • License Server limit exceeds the license limit.

Read-only mode capabilities

While read-only mode is running it's possible to:

  • login to the application
  • access Realtime Users Count report
  • manage user preferences
  • perform all administration actions, in particular:
    • manage License Servers
    • manage Users
    • access License Details 
    • remove historical data

Read-only mode limitations

While read-only mode is running it's not possible to:

  • Number of users monitored exceeds the limit set in the license
  • Number of license servers monitored exceeds the limit set in the license
  • Number of hosts exceeds the limit set in the license (not applicable to HPC licensing)

Capabilities

While restricted access mode is running, you can:

  • Log in to License Statistics
  • Manage user preferences
  • Perform all administration actions, including:
    • Managing license servers
    • Managing users
    • Accessing license details

Limitations

While restricted access mode is running, you cannot:

  • Display display any data on reports, grids and charts different (other than those listed abovein the previous section)
  • Monitor license servers, which monitor any Realtime License Servers, all of them will be blocked from querying
  • import any Import log files
