The information on this page refers to License Statistics v6.21 and newer, which introduced Host Merging. |
You can use Host Merging to merge duplicate hosts in cases where there is a one-to-one match of a single known hostname and a single unknown hostname that have the same IP address.
If there are multiple hosts with different hostnames and the same IP address, they cannot be merged, because it is not possible to determine which hosts should be merged.
To perform host merging:
It is not possible to remove all potential host duplicates, especially in a network where the IP address has the potential to change often. In such cases, License Statistics is not able to find reliable merging candidates, and will not allow merging due to the risk of corrupting collected data. |
Although it is possible to run the Host Merging operation multiple times, we recommend enabling (r)DNS lookup to avoid duplicate creation instead of merging hosts later. |
