The following steps are designed to get X-Formation's License Statistics up and running on Linux with a FLEXlm/FlexNet server in server (given as an example of the license server) in 10 minutes or less.

Important: When upgrading License Statistics to a new version, be sure to make a backup (see Backing up and restoring the database) and then copy the License Statistics configuration file (<License Statistics directory>/xflicstat.cfg), a license file, and third-party utilities (for example lmutil) to a safe location, and then remove the current installation folder before installing the new version. The License Statistics installation will not remove the currently installed version and will not install a new version into the same location as a previous version.

...

After the download is complete, an installation wizard will step you through the installation procedurescript will be ready to run.

Note the following:

  • You can install License Statistics on any machine, not necessarily the license server.
  • The installation program works on most Linux distributions; however, if you have a problem running the installer, you can run license_statistics.sh from a command prompt.

Step 2: Activate the license.

When If you are activating the License Statistics license during the installation is completeprocess,  you can activate your license over the internet, copy the existing license file, or choose a 30-day trial. Otherwise, follow the instructions described in Activating a license online to obtain a license file that by default will be copied to the license subdirectory of the License Statistics installation directory. (Note that during the installation procedure you can provide a path to the existing license that will be copied to the license subdirectory.)

Note that the default folder that License Statistics will be checking for available licenses is the license subdirectory in the License Statistics installation directory.

Step 3: Configure License Statistics for your site.

Open /usr/xflicstat/xflicstat.cfg in a text editor such as Notepad, and make the following changes:

...

To configure License Statistics, follow the instructions listed in Configuring License Statistics.

Important: When upgrading License Statistics to the latest version, you must replace xflicstat.cfg with the old configuration file and restore the old database before running License Statistics for the first time. This will enable automatic import of your old server settings that will not be possible later.

To see whether License Statistics is running normally:

  •  Change the setting for the query interval time from 10 to minute, to generate statistics every minute while adding your FlexNet server.

...

  •  This setting will let you quickly confirm that License Statistics is running normally, which you'll do in Step 6. (After you verify that License Statistics is running normally, you should change this setting to a larger value.)

...

  •  When needed, specify the path to your lmutil utility.

...

Step 4: Ensure you have the latest lmutil version.

...

Step 5: Start the service.

Use the init script to  to start the service.

Step 6: Test that License Statistics is running normally.

  • A couple of minutes after starting the service, review the log file (/usr/xflicstat<License Statistics directory>/log/xflicstat.log) and ensure it contains no FAIL or WARNING lines. Output similar to the following indicates the service is running normally:
