This page describes X-Formation's support policy for updating License Statistics from an older version to a newer version.
We must limit the ability to directly upgrade to the newest version due to accumulated software changes that result in incompatibilities between versions, such as:

X-Formation will provide provides support for and maintain the ability to update older versions of License Statistics for for 8 minor versions prior to the current version (at least 2 years (eight minor versions prior to the current version), including:).
List of supported versions is updated with each minor release, typically 3-4 times a year.
Support
- X-Formation Support Team provides technical help for the installations included on the list below
- For no longer supported versions the assistance is limited to updating License Statistics to the newer, supported version
Installation
- Installers for the supported versions of License Statistics are available to download from X-Formation download portal
- Installer downloads. Installers are available to download for at least 2 years from their release date (eight minor versions prior to the current version). In some cases, such as when needed to maintain the update chain, older installers are available as well.
- Direct updates to License Statistics update to the newest version from older, still supported versions is possible using the installer
- MSI
- RPM
- Migration of the old database. Database migrations are maintained for at least 2 years, and new ones are added for another 2 years. The oldest are cleaned.

As of License Statistics v7.0, installers released prior to License Statistics v6.18 will not be available on the download portal, except those required to provide a migration chain from older versions.
If your License Statistics version is more than 2 years old, we may be unable to support a direct upgrade to the newest License Statistics version.
Older versions may require upgrading to a newer version before you are able to upgrade to the most current version.

Database
- MySQL Server versions are supported for the length of time they are supported by the vendor (generally, 2 years from their release date)
- Direct update of the MySQL Server by more than one major LTS version is not supported by the vendor
- External database needs to be updated prior to updating License Statistics server following the proper instructions
- Embedded database is updated automatically by the installer when updating from the still supported version
Data migration
- Ability to migrate data directly to the newest version is maintained for 2-4 years
- Existing data migrations are supported for 8 versions
- New data migrations are added for another 8 versions
- After that time the oldest migrations are removed, keeping last 8 versions only

Policy to maintain data migrations for longer than 2 years was introduces to allow for easier update from not supported versions, by making clean License Statistics installation and restoring database backup on the new host.

Licenses
- Licenses generated for the supported versions of License Statistics may not work with older, no longer supported versions
