New licensing was introduced with License Statistics 6.0 to simplify the licensing rules and won't be supported by application versions lower than 6.0. It is the default licensing model for License Statistics. You can find more details on Licensing Transition page. |
License Statistics needs to have one valid license loaded in order to work. Types of licenses are described in tables below.
License Type | Limits | License Expiration | Maintenance Expiration | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Trial | Unlimited | 30 Days | No Maintenance | Delivered with License Statistics installer only. Can be used for evaluation and testing purposes only. It's the default license type which is loaded if no other valid license was delivered. |
Perpetual | Limited Users and License Servers | Permanent | 1 year | Commercial license delivered to customers. It has no limit in terms of License Statistics expiry, but it has time-limited maintenance. |
Subscription | Limited Users and License Servers | 1 year | 1 year | Commercial license delivered to customers. Both License Statistics expiry and maintenance are time-limited. |
University | Unlimited | 1 year | 1 year | Commercial license for academic usage only. |
Test | Depends on Sales or Support decision | 14 Days | No Maintenance | Technical license delivered by X-Formation Sales or Support team in order to solve the Customers problem. |
All purpose license types described above can can be delivered with one of user counting types variations.
License Type | Unique User | Description | Example |
---|---|---|---|
User-Host | Username + Hostname | Default way of counting Users in License Statistics. Single user is a unique pair of Username and Hostname. |
User license count: 3 |
Username | Username | Optional license type where single user for licencing purposes is counted as a unique username. |
User license count: 2 |
Commercial licenses are delivered with user limit which is the maximum number of unique users (usernames or user-host pairs) which can be monitored by License Statistics.
Users Count limit is the maximum number of users monitored in entire history (all users in database are counted including Usage and Denials).
Commercial licenses are delivered with license server limit which is the maximum number of license servers added to be monitored by License Statistics.
License Servers limit is the maximum number of imported and realtime license servers which can be actively monitored in the same time. License Servers which are disabled by the customer are not counted. Customer can add unlimited number of realtime license servers, but the application will start monitoring only the maximum number the license allows. Each imported license server decreases amount of realtime license servers which can be monitored.
In some cases License Statistics thresholds can be exceed. The application will react on this situation differently depends on the case. In the table below there are listed situations when the license is exceed or expired.

License expired | Historical data present in database from before the date when the trial was started. | Trial | Starting in read-only mode | Load commercial license. Start Trial with empty database. |
