This page refers to functionality that has been deprecated in License Statistics. |
To setup a floating license for License Statistics, you must configure and start the LM-X license server using the lmx-enduser-tools installer (included with the License Statistics distribution and located in the tools directory) and correctly configure License Statistics to use the floating license.
...
. Note that to install LM-X license server, you need to specify the path to the liblmxvendor.dll file, whose default location is also the tools directory.
- After installation of the LM-X end user tools and license server, set the path to the License Statistics license file. (The path should be specified in the LICENSE_FILE setting as described in License Server Configuration file in the LM-X End Users Guide.)
- Start/restart the (lmx-serv.cfg configuration file can be found in license directory) (http://docs.x-formation.com/display/LMX/License+Server+Configuration+file), especially set path to a license file in LICENSE_FILE.Start LM-X license server. (For Windows: , after verifying that everything your setup is working, the LM-X server should be installed as a service, so it starts automatically on every Windows restart) .
- In the "Licensing" section of the License Statistics configuration file, xflicstat.cfg, set the Set LM-X license server port (optionallyoptional) and hostname in the LICENSE_PATH variablesetting. Alternatively LM-X server automatic discovery can be used by setting: LICENSE_PATH = AUTODISCOVERY
- Optionally it is possible to split one license into several smaller. This should be helpful for having two instances of License Statistics, e.g. one production and one test installation.
- , you can use automatic server discovery by setting LICENSE_PATH = AUTODISCOVERY. Optionally, you can set the license limits in the "License limits (floating licensing)" section.
- Copy licstat.lic to the end-user tools directory.
- Start/restart License Statistics.
Multiple installations
Optionally, you can split one license into two or more licenses. This is useful when you want to have multiple instances of License Statistics; for example, one for production and one for testing purposes. In such a case, multiple instances of License Statistics are installed and configured separately, but share the limitations (i.e., allowed number of users and license servers) of a single floating license.

Network license settings can be adjusted using License Statistics Manager using License → Network option. |
For example, assume we have a floating license for up to 200 users and 10 servers. For the test installation, we will set the user and server limits to 20 users and 2 servers. The settings you would make in the configuration file for this scenario are as follows.
New licensing model (2019) example:
For the test installation:
LICENSE_PATH = @your-LM-X-machine
LICENSE_TOTAL_USER = 20
LICENSE_TOTAL_SERVER = 2
For the production installation:
LICENSE_PATH = @your-LM-X-machine
LICENSE_TOTAL_USER = 180
LICENSE_TOTAL_SERVER = 8
Old licensing model (2013) example:
For the test installation:
Assume we have a floating license with limits: 100 users and 10 servers for imported usage, and 100 users and 10 servers for realtime usage. For test installation we need 20 users
and 2 servers for realtime monitoring and import license should be disabled.
Relevant part of configuration file for test installation will look like:
LICENSE_PATH = AUTODISCOVERY LICENSE_PATH = @your-LM-X-machine
LICENSE_TOTAL_USER_REALTIME = 20
LICENSE_TOTAL_SERVER_REALTIME = 2
LICENSE_TOTAL_USER_IMPORT = 0 0
LICENSE_TOTAL_SERVER_IMPORT = 0 0
And
For the one of production installation:
LICENSE_PATH = AUTODISCOVERY @your-LM-X-machine
LICENSE_TOTAL_USER_REALTIME = 80 180
LICENSE_TOTAL_SERVER_REALTIME = 8 8
LICENSE_TOTAL_USER_IMPORT = 0
LICENSE_TOTAL_SERVER_IMPORT = 0
