License Statistics runs as a service on Windows and as a daemon on Linux.

For both Windows and Linux, you must first configure License Statistics before running it, as described in Configuring License Statistics.

For platform-specific instructions for running License Statistics on Windows, see Starting and stopping License Statistics on Windows. For Linux instructions, see Starting and stopping License Statistics on Linux.

Note
Do not run two different versions of License Statistics (i.e. one for production and one for testing purposes) simultaneously on the same host.

However, if you want to evaluate the latest version of the software, you can download and install the trial version of License Statistics on any other machine. Each trial version can be converted to the production software by obtaining a production license from X-Formation.

Note

The trial version lets you test both realtime functionality and importing log files. However, log importation and realtime denials are limited. Any data older than the trial start date will not be included. A commercial license that will allow you to import and view all your import data is available on request by contacting X-Formation

Also note that if during the trial startup process License Statistics finds usage statistics data gathered before running License Statistics as a trial for the first time, you will not be able to run the trial version of the software. Furthermore, the information about this problem will be recorded in the License Statistics log file. However, if you remove this data from License Statistics (for example, by removing the license server representing it), you will be able to run the trial version again.
