If there are problems with an Apache web server, you may see one or more of the following errors in the the License Statistics log file:.

[2012-04-01 08:0:00] FAIL: Starting secondary apache process timed out. Unable to start apache web server.

[2012-04-01 08:00:00] FAIL: Apache manager error: Unable to connect to licstat:8080 web server! Already running apache web server sends failed respond. Failed to start apache web server.

[2012-04-01 08:00:00] FAIL: Apache is not responding to HTTP requests!

[2012-04-01 08:00:00] NOTICE: Waiting for httpd process to start, which takes more time than usual...

External apache stopped running.

To You can investigate the cause of these errors using the following steps: by reviewing the information stored in the License Statistics log file.

  1. Start License Statistics in debug mode. (See Enabling License Statistics debug logs for instructions on enabling debug mode.)

Locate the command used to start the Apache web server in the xflicstat.log file; for example:
    [2012-04-01 08:00:00] XF_DEBUG: Starting Apache web server process: X:\licstat\apache\bin\httpd.exe -f "X:\licstat\apache\conf\httpd.conf" -d "X:\licstat\apache"
  2. Using this command, manually start the Apache web server and note any errors that occur. If errors indicate that the same http port is already being used by another application, refer to "Unable to open http server on port" error section, below.
  3. Review the information stored in License Statistics log file.

Note: When using Linux, make sure all 32-bit compatible libraries are installed, as mentioned in Operating system and resource requirements. An installation wizard will keep you informed which libraries are missing. If not all 32-bit libraries are installed, you may see one or more of the errors listed at the top of the page.

The License Statistics Usage Monitor is configured by default to use port 80 for the http server, which is used to display License Statistics web-based UI pages in the browser. If this port (or another port you specified in the configuration file) is already being used by another application, you will see an error similar to the following :in the License Statistics log file.

[2009-05-04 14:35:40] WARNING: Cannot bind on TCP 0.0.0.0:80! Make sure no other applications use this portApache is not responding to HTTP requests! Please make sure no other application is blocking port .. or your DNS service works properly!
[2009-05-04 14:35:40] FAIL: Unable to open http server on port 80! Please verify that configured port is not in use by other application.
[2009-05-04 14:35:40] Shutting down due to exit signal
[2009-05-04 14:35:40] Starting monitor of 27000@localhost with query interval of 60 seconds!
[2009-05-04 14:35:40] Stopping monitor of 27000@localhost!
Please make sure that current user has permissions to use configured port.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Free up the port by ending the applications that are using it or specify a different port.
  2. Restart License Statistics.
  3. Recheck the log file to ensure the error is resolved.
